Graduation Card for my Niece - I Say Hello Stamp Set

Hello and welcome to my blog; today I am going to share with you my card that was supposed to be part of a Blog Hop today but I had computer issues last night and couldn't get the post done.  After letting the laptop do it's thing everything seems to be working fine.    Since my post was messed up last night I thought I would share my card with you again. I made this card with my oldest niece in mind; she will be graduating as part of the class 2020.  Her graduation has been pushed back from May until sometime in August due to the pandemic.  So I thought I would make her a nice card, because you know there's nothing better than a piece a cardstock with a fold in the middle.  Here's a look at my card.

Tips & Tricks:

So the first thing I did when I made the decision to make her a graduation card I went online and found her schools colors.  Once I found the school's colors I was like oh lord how am I going to make this card for a girl.  Her school colors were Red, White, & Blue.   Not the easiest color combo to work with without making it look very patriotic.  I then thought of using the Ornate Layers dies from the Ornate Garden Suite; which would be perfect to add a feminine touch to the card.  But, first I needed something graduationish.  So I happened to remember that the I Say Hello Stamp Set had a graduation hat in the set.  So I pulled my colors; I went with Real Red, Blueberry Bushel, and Whisper White.  And I went to town making my own designer series paper for my card.

So I stamped the graduation hat in Real Red Classic Ink and Blueberry Bushel Classic Inks onto a piece of Whisper White Cardstock and tried to make them look like they had all been tossed in the air.  It turned out really nice.  So since I was happy with the way the stamping turned out I then took the next to largest frame from the Ornate Layers Dies and die cut the whisper white piece.  I thought with all the little scrolls, and floral border it added a nice feminine look to the card.  I then took the largest frame from the set and die cut my piece of Blueberry Bushel Cardstock to make an outside frame.  I added the two together popping up the whisper white layer on Stampin' Dimensionals.

I then added the card front to a Real Red card base cut at 4 1/4 x 11 scored at 5 1/2.  I stamped the sentiment in Blueberry Bushel Classic Ink and the Graduation hat one more time on the sentiment strip in Real Red Classic Ink and die cut it out with my Stitched Rectangle Dies.  I popped the sentiment up on Dimensionals on the center of the card and added a few Red Rhinestone Basic Jewels around the card to finish it off and add a little bling to the card.  I hope that she likes her card when she gets it in the mail.  Thanks for dropping in today I hope you have a wonderful day.

Sailing Home - The Spot Sketch Challenge #105

Hello and welcome to my blog; today I am going to share with you my card that I made for this week's sketch challenge over at The Spot.  For my card I decided to go with products from the Come Sail Away Suite from the 2019 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog.  I actually picked this suite because of the sentiment that I used on my card.  I thought it was just a very uplifting and encouraging message.  And I know that a lot of people need to here that today.  Here's a look at my card.

Here's a look at the challenge that inspired my card.  You can click on the image below to visit us at The Spot to see what the other design team members came up with using this week's sketch.

Tips & Tricks:

I started out my card design by attaching a 4 x 5 1/4 piece of Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper after attaching it to a mat made from a 4 1/8 x 5 3/8 piece of Balmy Blue Cardstock.  I then attached it to my Soft Suede card base (5 1/2 x 8 1/2).  Once I had the basics part of the card created I used the Layering Squares Dies to cut out three medium Soft Suede squares and three smaller squares from the designer series paper.  I keep with patterns in the blues from the designer series paper pack.  One reason for this choice was because blues and brown pair really nicely together.  Brown is considered a Earth Red or Earth Orange in the art world, and blue is the complementary color of orange.  So where I am going, yes, I am sneaking in a little color theory to my project.

After cutting out the squares I attached them to each other with a little Multipurpose Liquid Glue.  I then attached a skinny strip of DSP to a skinny Soft Suede Strip and added it to the card front.  I then arranged the squares as you see above and as in the sketch.  I then stamped the lighthouse from the stamp set in Soft Suede and the sentiment in Night of Navy Classic Inks and used the matching dies from the Smooth Sailing Dies and attached them to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

To finish off my card I added one of the anchors from the Sail Away Trinkets using a mini glue dot and added a small bow made from the Night of Navy/Sahara Sand Baker's Twine.  I hope that you like my card and that it gave you a little sense of hope in this trying time.  I also hope that you will take a little time a play along with us over at The Spot this week.  This is a really fun creative challenge and will make you think outside the box and explore your creativity.  Thanks for dropping by.
