Lovely Lily Pad Catalog Card CASED

Hello and welcome to my blog; today we are going to be CASEing the 2020 Saleabration Brochure.  We are using one of the Lovely Lily Pad Cards as our inspiration today and we are going to change it up a little using the Tropical Chic Stamp Set and the 2018-2020 In Colors from the Annual Catalog.  These are the In Colors that will be leaving us soon, and I can say I will be very sad to see them go.  If you have any of the in colors currently now's the time to stock up on your favorite cardstock ink refills etc.  If you don't have them you need to get them, because once they are on the retiring list they will more than likely sale out quickly they usually do.   Enough of the jibber jabber here's a look at the card and the inspiration card.

I received the Lovely Lily Pad card from my friend Kay Cogbill when I took part in her team's CASE the Catalog Swap.  You have seen many of those cards shared here for my Case the Catalog Series each Sunday.  So I thought since Sale-A-Bration will be ending soon it would be a good thing to share taking inspiration from the catalog and Kay's card and doing a little Copy And Selectively Editing.  So I used her card from the Catalog Swap as my jumping off point.

So for my version of Kay's card I used the Tropical Chic stamp set and matching Tropical Dies to stamp and cut out the palm leaves and tropical leaves from that set.  I used Call Me Clover ink to stamp all three on to whisper white cardstock.  I stamped each leaves in either 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation stamping to create the three different ink shades you see here.  On the card that Kay made you can see the ombre look in the cardstock that was used; I picked the generational stamping as my ombre element.  I did keep the vellum circle behind the elements but I went a little larger then the inspiration piece.

I then used the Lily Pad Dies and cut out my elements using scraps of the 2018-2020 In Colors.  I cut each of the same die in Lovely Lipstick, Grapefruit Grove, Pineapple Punch, Call Me Clover, and Blueberry Bushel.  Each of these were glued to my card front in the same way as the inspiration card.  Slightly off setting them to one side each time, and alternating how they went with the point up or down.  I then added the sentiment.  I picked the Congratulations from Lily Pad Lake and punched it out using the Classic Label punch.  I added this to the leaves with dimensionals and then added a bow from the Lovely Lipstick ribbon with a mini glue dot.  My entire card front was then added to a side folding thick whisper white card base.

Saturday Simple Stamping Episode 19: Tropical Chic Thank You Card

Hello and welcome to my Blog & YouTube Channel for another episode of Saturday Simple Stamping.  Simple Stamping is a way to share card making with others that have not stamped before or have just started stamping designs they can recreate easily using mainly Stamps, Ink, & Paper with the occasional embellishment or tool thrown in.  In this weeks episode we are using the 2017-2019 In Colors (which will be retiring soon) and the Tropical Chic stamp set to create a fun playful thank you card.  Here's a look at today's card.

In colors?

If you are new to Stampin' Up! You may be wondering what are In Colors; well each year we get five new colors added to our core color collection that are only around for two years.  These colors are colors that are the most trendy colors out there when they are released and you will see them in cloths, paint, home decor, etc.  One set of five colors will retire each alternating year, and we get five new colors in there place.  So it helps to keep our color collection fresh and exciting.  This year's leaving colors are the 2017-2019 In Colors; Fresh Fig, Berry Burst, Lemon Lime Twist, Powder Pink, and Tranquil Tide.  These colors will be leaving in June but will sell out as soon as the retiring list is announced April 15, or while supplies last.  I always suggest that if you like these colors you get them now before they are gone.  Plus make sure you stock up on the cardstock, ink refills, and anything in the colors you like most of all.

Tips & Tricks:

Tropical Chic Stamp Set, 2017-2019 In Colors, Stampin' Up!, Rick Adkins
  • Start with the largest image and stamp it in a visual triangle.  In the Art world there's this rule called the rule of odds.  Simply put it means that odd numbers always look better as does placing images in a triangular pattern.  If you notice with today's card I did just that.  You can see each set of three images round the card.
  • Stamp the sentiment before stamping the smaller images.  By doing this it will allow you to arrange the other elements and have enough room for that sentiment.  Which we all know is the main focus of the card even through we sometimes forget.

  • Start larger and then trim down to the size you want to end with.  Like here I started out with a piece of cardstock that was the actual size of the card front.  After stamping I trimmed it down to fit the card and it gave it a nice boarder on the card base.  But this also allows me to pick and choice areas that look the best.  For example if I had a little mark on one edge I could just simply trim that away.

  • Save your trimmed off edges so you can add them to the inside of the card.  This allows for a cohesive look from the outside to the inside.  Super easy tip but often over looked.  So don't throw them away.  Those little pieces are gold.
