There's nothing wrong with creating traditional colored Christmas Cards; but there's also nothing wrong with creating non-traditional colored cards either. Actually they are quite fun to create and design. I would suggest that if you are in a rut during your handmade holiday season of creating to give an untraditional color pallet a try to get those juices flowing.
Weather you love traditional, vivid, or untraditional colors you can always find a color combination to create your Holiday Cards with. It's easier to create when you love the color combination. I created this card last week while attending my friends stamping event the day before OnStage. This was my card for the color challenge that we were issued. We had to use at least 3 of the five colors assigned to create a Christmas Card. I used the Tag Buffet Stamp Set to create my card.
So, as I mentioned we had to pick at least three of the colors that were suggested for the color challenge. I used Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, Basic Black and Granny Apple Green. Which turns out it's a great color combo. It's bright and cheerful and turns out a fun Christmas color combo.
I started out with my color selection as seen above and cut all the pieces of cardstock that I needed. My card base is a piece of Melon Mambo cut at 4 1/4" x 11". I then cut a piece of Granny Apple Green and stamped the ornament from the Tag Buffet Stamp Set in Granny Apple Green Ink. Which was layered on to a piece of Basic Black. I then created more layers for the card in the same color combo as the card itself. On the smaller Granny Apple Green layer I embossed it with the Wrapped in Texture Embossing Folders. I picked the one that has the little dots because I thought it added a fun playful feel to the card.
I then stamped a few ornaments onto a scrap of Whisper White Cardstock and colored them with my Stampin' Blends in the matching colors. I alternated the colors on each ornament to add to the playful feel of my card. I then fussy cut them all out and added them to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. And, then added a bow made from the Black Organdy Glitter Ribbon. To add a sentiment to the front of the card I stamped one of the sentiments from the same stamp set onto a scrap of Melon Mambo Cardstock and cut out the part that I wanted to fit inside one of the ornaments. I popped the sentiment up onto the card with another Stampin' Dimensional.
I think that this is a super fun little color combination and adds a whimsical touch to Christmas Cards. Sometimes it's a great way to liven up your card making during the Holidays and can get you out of the creative rut that you maybe feeling during this time of the year. I think it's more important than ever to send out a handmade card or gift this year to someone. You never know how it would brighten their day since Christmas and the Holidays this year will be held a little different families and companies want be able to hold their large gathering this year with the pandemic. So, it's nice to share a little piece of your heart with them with a handmade card. You will find a list of the supplies that I used below.
