Hello and welcome to my blog; today I am going to share with you my card for this week's challenge over at The Spot. This week's challenge is a very fun card sketch. I picked the Poinsettia Petals Stamp set from the August - December Mini Catalog along with the Poinsettia Place Designer Series Paper to create my card with today.
I wanted to do something fun and festive with the sketch for this week's challenge, but wasn't quite sure what I wanted to use until I sat down and actually was reorganizing my designer series paper and putting the scraps into sleeves. I as was doing this I was actually on this pack of designer series paper and it hit me that the scraps on my table was perfect. Isn't it funny how things just fall into place sometimes. Here's a look at the card that I created for this week's challenge.
Here's a look at the sketch that inspired my card today. You can click on the image below and visit The Spot Challenge Blog to check out what the other design team members came up with using this week's sketch. And I can tell you that I have gotten to see them all and they are fabulous.
If you follow me you know that I love to make portrait style cards. So, it was just natural for me to turn the sketch. Even with me turning the sketch my card still has the same fell. I started with a Real Red card base cut at 4 1/4" x 11 scored at 5 1/2". I then added a piece of the Plush Poinsettia Speciality Paper to the center of the card base for a little visual interest.
At this point I started placing my Poinsettia Place Designer Series Paper pieces onto the card base. I found that if I placed the larger pieces first that I could measure the smaller pieces and piecemeal them into the card design. All my pieces of designer series paper are popped up on Stampin' Dimensionals. By the way this is one of the packs of
DSP currently on Sale till the end of October. So, now is your last chance to get it at the 15% discount.
Once I had all my pieces of Designer Series Papers in place I started working on the focal point. I stamped the three pieces of the poinsettia from the stamp set in Real Red Ink onto Real Red Cardstock and used the matching dies to cut them out. I then built up my flower with all the dimension and added one of the Beaded Pearls in the center. I placed this on my card in the bottom left corner with a Stampin' Dimensional. I then stamped my sentiment onto a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock in Real Red Ink and cut a small banner end and placed it on my card front tucking the other end behind my flower.
Thanks for dropping by today, I hope that you give this sketch a try and that you play along with us this week. I know that you will have fun playing with this sketch I know I did. If you need any of the supplies that you have seen today you can pick them up in my online store by clicking on the image in the Shopping List below.
